Reflection – your first reaction

Assessing how you first react in situations where you usually act negatively can show you how far you have come on your self-development journey. If your first reaction is to get defensive; pass the blame; or take the ‘I told you stance’ rather than being supportive, take a step back to evaluate why you are repeatedly acting this way? Particularly asking yourself how that situation makes you feel.

If you are able to identify the feeling then that can help you to see what is being triggered. You can then begin to change the internal dialogue that is taking place when similar situations arise again. In doing this, it is also important to give yourself grace if you don’t react as you would have hoped. You are human, with flaws and you can try a more appropriate response next time. God willing.
